Dharali is a scenic high altitude riverside hamlet and ancient Shiva pilgrimage settlement situated along the emerald Bhagirathi River, roughly 2 km upstream from Harsil along the Gangotri Dham route. Known for its sprawling red apple orchards, traditional wood and stone Garhwali architecture, and the ancient stone Kalp Kedar Shiva Temple, the village holds deep mythological prominence.

According to Hindu mythology, King Bhagirath performed intense penance (tapasya) here to bring the celestial River Ganga down to earth before she descended onto Lord Shiva's matted locks. Pilgrims and mountain travelers touring northern Uttarakhand stay in Dharali's riverside homestays to explore local apple orchards, taste pure mountain honey and rajma, and start the popular day trek to Sat Tal.
Truth is, the soothing sound of the Bhagirathi rushing over granite boulders right past your balcony is unmatched. The village and temples are accessible 24 hours a day with zero entry fees.
The best months to visit Dharali village are from April to June for pleasant summer escapes and September to November for apple harvests and snow peaks.
