Vishwanath Temple is an ancient stone sanctuary dedicated to Lord Shiva, resting at an elevation of 1,319 meters (4,327 feet) in the scenic town of Guptkashi in Uttarakhand. Built in the classic North Indian stone shikhara architectural style with intricate stone carvings similar to the Kashi Vishwanath temple of Varanasi, this historic shrine holds profound spiritual prominence on the sacred Char Dham yatra circuit.

According to Hindu epic lore from the Mahabharata, Lord Shiva concealed himself in Guptkashi in the disguise of the bull Nandi to elude the Pandavas, who were seeking absolution for their sins after the Kurukshetra war. The name Guptkashi translates to 'Hidden Varanasi'. Pilgrims stopping in Guptkashi visit the sanctum to offer prayers at the rock lingam and witness the evening aarti against the snowy backdrop of Mount Chaukhamba.
Vishwanath Temple is centrally situated in Guptkashi bazaar along National Highway 107.
The best months to visit Vishwanath Temple are April to June and September to November for pleasant mountain weather.
