Manikarnika Kund is a holy natural water reservoir located within the historic Vishwanath temple courtyard in Guptkashi, resting at an elevation of 1,319 meters (4,327 feet) in Uttarakhand. Revered across the Garhwal Himalayas for its perennial holy springs, the stone pool receives fresh natural waters flowing continuously through two carved stone spouts representing the sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna (symbolized by a cow's head or Gomukh and an elephant spout).
According to regional lore, the pool derives its name from Goddess Parvati's jewel studded earring (Manikarnika) that fell into the holy water. Pilgrims visiting Guptkashi perform ritual cleansing and sip the sacred water (achaman) before entering the adjacent Vishwanath and Ardhanarishwar shrines. The continuous flow naturally bathes the Shiva lingam installed inside the water tank.
Manikarnika Kund is situated inside the Vishwanath Temple complex in central Guptkashi on NH 107.
The best time to visit Manikarnika Kund is between April and June, and from September to November.
