Dashrath Shila is a deeply revered sacred rock boulder situated on the banks of the Shanta River (a small tributary of the Alaknanda) in Devprayag, Uttarakhand. According to ancient Ramayana folklore, this holy rock marks the precise spot where King Dashratha (father of Lord Rama) performed severe penance (tapasya) to atone for the accidental killing of the young hermit Shravan Kumar.
Surrounded by steep terraced hillside houses and cascading mountain waters, the rock formation is accompanied by the Dashrath Temple and a dedicated spring believed to be named after Shanta, King Dashratha's daughter.
