Auli Lake

Auli Artificial Lake is the world's highest man made lake, sitting at a scenic altitude of 2,800 meters (9,186 feet) along the rolling alpine slopes of Auli in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Created by the Uttarakhand government to feed snow making snow guns during winter ski championships, this crystal clear reservoir is enclosed by lush green alpine meadows (bugyals) and dense oak and deodar forests.

A key visual highlight of the lake is its still turquoise water, which is a giant natural mirror reflecting the imposing snow capped peaks of Mount Nanda Devi (India's second highest peak), Mount Trishul, Kamet, Dunagiri, and Hathi Ghori Parvat. During winter, the lake often freezes into a glistening sheet of ice while surrounding slopes transform into premier ski trails.
