The 1889 Royal Restoration & Connaught Dam

In the late 17th century, Maharana Jai Singh excavated the lake basin, but heavy monsoons breached the earthen embankment.

In 1889, Maharana Fateh Singh spearheaded a massive engineering overhaul, constructing a reinforced stone embankment designed by British engineers and inaugurated by Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught.

Truth is, the lake is interconnected via a sophisticated canal network with Lake Pichola and Badi Lake, ensuring that Udaipur's royal lake system remains replenished year round.
