Kaliadeh Palace (the 1458 CE Mandu Sultanate river island palace built where the holy Shipra River divides into two channels, famous for Persian water engineering, Surya Kunda tanks, and Mughal visits by Akbar and Jahangir) near Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, stands as Malwa's supreme medieval riverine palace and hydraulic heritage landmark.

The 1458 CE Persian Water Architecture & Mughal Inscriptions

Constructed with red sandstone, the palace features an ingenious medieval air conditioning system where Shipra River water was drawn into 52 stone tanks and cascaded through covered water channels beneath the royal residential chambers.

Emperor Akbar stayed here in 1601 following his Deccan campaign, while Emperor Jahangir rested at the palace in 1616, both leaving inscribed Persian eulogies praising the cool river breeze and tranquil water cascades.

Truth is, standing on the stone pavilion at the river fork while the Shipra rushes past on both sides creates a wonderful sense of traveling through medieval royal history.
