Jantar Mantar

Ujjain was chosen for this observatory because classical Indian astronomers considered it the zero meridian of longitude, where the Tropic of Cancer intersects the meridian line.

The Samrat Yantra features a central triangular gnomon tilted at 23°10' north (Ujjain's exact geographical latitude), casting a precise shadow along calibrated stone quadrants to measure local solar time.
