Reechgarh (the colossal naturally hollowed sandstone amphitheater cave and air cooled slot canyon, famed in tribal folklore as the ancient fortress of sloth bears) in the hill station of Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh, stands as Satpura's supreme geological curiosity and subterranean adventure landmark.

The Sloth Bear Fortress & Natural Air Cooled Canyon

The name Reechgarh translates directly to Fort of the Bears, honoring the historical shelter this deep subterranean amphitheater provided to generations of Satpura sloth bears.

Visitors enter through a narrow rock crevice on one side of the hill, handle the boulder strewn canyon floor, and emerge on the opposite forest ridge, enjoying a continuous rushing flow of cool mountain air.
