The 1857 Discovery Ridge & Captain Forsyth Legacy

In 1857, Captain James Forsyth of the Bengal Lancers climbed this ridge while leading a military patrol, gazing down into the unknown temperate highland bowl that would soon become Pachmarhi hill station.

He documented the discovery in his classic 1871 book The Highlands of Central India, describing the cool pine air, clear mountain springs, and red sandstone ramparts that remain virtually unchanged to this day.
