Thiruvambadi Krishna Temple

Thiruvambadi Krishna Temple (celebrated as Thiruvambadi Sree Krishna Temple), located on Shoranur Road near Round West just 1 km north of Swaraj Round in Thrissur in Kerala, is one of Kerala's most revered Krishna pilgrimage shrines and the chief participating competitor in the world renowned Thrissur Pooram festival.

Originally consecrated over 500 years ago in the village of Edakkalathur before being relocated to its current urban sanctuary during the 16th century to safeguard the sacred idol from medieval conflicts, the temple is dedicated to Unnikrishna (infant Lord Krishna in butter thief Balagopala form) alongside a powerful consecrated sanctum for Goddess Bhadrakali.

The 16th Century Unnikrishna Idol & Bhadrakali Shrine

The presiding deity is Lord Krishna in his charming child form, holding butter in both hands (Navaneetha Krishna), sculpted from rare black Anjanashila stone.

Sharing equal prominence in the inner courtyard is the sub shrine of Goddess Bhadrakali, revered as the protective mother deity whose blessing is invoked before all major public ceremonies and pooram processions.
