Baba Reshi Shrine is a sacred 15th century Sufi ziarat dedicated to the revered saint Baba Payam ud Din Reshi. Located at an altitude of 7,000 feet surrounded by dense deodar forests just 5 km downhill from Gulmarg, it is one of the most prominent spiritual pilgrimage sites in Jammu and Kashmir.
The shrine complex shows classical Kashmiri wooden architecture, featuring three tiered pagoda roofs, intricate pinjrakari lattice woodwork, and carved walnut timber pillars. Devotees of all faiths step inside the central Noor Khwan prayer chamber to tie sacred prayer threads (daage) around the wooden sanctum grill.
Truth is, Baba Payam ud Din served as a powerful court minister to 15th century Kashmir ruler Sultan Zain ul Abidin before renouncing worldly wealth to follow the Reshi ascetic tradition of Baba Zain ud Din Wali. People travel from far distances to pray for childbirth, health, and family prosperity at his tomb.
