Badshahi Bagh Gurudwara (the sacred seventeenth century Sikh sanctuary, revered royal garden camp of the tenth Guru, and premier spiritual pilgrimage landmark of Ambala City) in Ambala in Haryana, is one of northwest India's most venerated historical shrines.
Built on the historical site of an imperial garden near the district courts, this sacred gurudwara marks the sanctified spot where young Guru Gobind Singh Ji stayed while returning from Lakhnaur Sahib, his maternal home.
It's the home of gleaming white marble domes reflecting blue morning skies, a tall saffron Nishan Sahib waving proudly above leafy courtyards, resonant kirtan verses sung in devotion from early dawn, an expansive community langar serving hot nutritious meals to all visitors without distinction, and tranquil stone verandas where travelers pause in quiet contemplation.
It represents a rich union of Sikh spiritual heritage, selfless community service, and civic history where historic gurudwaras, ancient Bhawani Amba Temple shrines, Holy Redeemer Church steeples, and European Cemetery memorials unite around Ambala.
Located adjacent to the District Courts in Ambala City, the shrine sits just 3 km from Ambala City Railway Station (UBC), 7 km from Ambala Cantt Junction (UMB), and 48 km from Chandigarh Airport, easily accessed by auto rickshaw or cycle rickshaw.
According to regional Sikh chronicles, young Gobind Rai (later Guru Gobind Singh Ji) encamped in this royal garden shaded by dense banyan and mango orchards while traveling with his mother Mata Gujri Ji.
During his camp, local residents, holy men, and royal officials were astonished by the young Guru's wisdom, spiritual aura, and mastery over archery and falconry.
Over the decades, devoted followers raised a monumental white marble gurudwara featuring classical Sikh domes, floral inlays, and an elevated sanctum housing the Guru Granth Sahib under a golden palki.
Truth is, the gurudwara continues the sacred tradition of Maryada and round the-clock langar, welcoming thousands of weary highway travelers each week.
