Gurgaon is an important city in the state of Haryana. It is also the second biggest city in the state and a major economic and academic hub in the state. It is a satellite city which forms a part of the NCR or National Capital Region. The district of Gurgaon is made up of five blocks and they are Pataudi, Badshahpur, Gurgaon, Sohna, and Farrukhnagar. In terms of per capita income in the country, Gurgaon occupies the third rank following Chandigarh and Mumbai. Gurgaon ranks as one of the biggest off shoring and outsourcing centers in the whole world. Apparel manufacturing, information technology, engineering and procurement, management consultancy, business advisory, insurance and brokerage, car manufacturing, real estate, and shopping malls are the major industries in the city.

Th e District derived its name from the name of Guru Dronacharya; the village was given as gurudakshina to him by his students; the Pandavas and hence it came to be known as Guru-gram , which in course of time got distorted to Gurgaon. Thus the District has been ex istence since the times of Mahabharata. The District is surrounded by Delhi & Rajasthan. It is said that Yudhishtar, the eldest brother amon g the Pandavas, gave this village to his guru, Dronacharya, whose tank still exists on the w est side of the Railway Road. Actual village "GURGAON" is about 1.5 km. away from Gurgaon town, where the temple of SHEETLA MATA, attracts devotees in large numbers on every Monday and Tuesday.
