Dhari Devi Temple

Dhari Devi Temple is a revered Hindu Shakti temple situated on an elevated concrete pillar platform directly over the rushing waters of the Alaknanda River in Kalyasaur village, roughly 14 kilometers east of Srinagar Garhwal in Uttarakhand. Revered as the supreme guardian protector deity of the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri), this sacred river shrine houses the upper half of Goddess Kali's idol, while the lower half is worshipped as Goddess Kalimath in Rudraprayag.

According to local folklore, the facial expression of the black stone idol miraculously changes through the course of a single day: appearing as an innocent young girl in the morning, a mature woman in the afternoon, and an aged matriarch by evening. Connected to the Badrinath National Highway (NH 7) by a long pedestrian suspension walkway suspended high above the turquoise river reservoir, the temple draws thousands of Chardham pilgrims who stop to seek safe travel blessings and offer red chunris, coconuts, and brass bells.

Truth is, walking along the suspension bridge while the Alaknanda river surges beneath and evening conch shells echo against granite gorge walls is deeply moving. It remains one of the most spiritually charged river temples in Uttarakhand.
