Nestled in the foothills of majestic Himalayas and on the banks of Alaknanda River sits the historic town of Srinagar. The rock was believed to have taken as many as thousand lives before Adi Shankaracharya, in the 8th century AD, as a part of an undertaking aimed to rejuvenate the Hindu religion across India, visited Srinagar and turned the Sri Yantra upside down and hurled it into the nearby river Alaknanda. To this day, this rock is believed to be lying docile in the underbelly of the river. Srinagar has been the Capital of the Garhwal Kingdom until the arrival of the British. The town has weathered at least two catastrophic events in its recent history.

Package Itinerary

Day 1:   Dehradun - Srinagar Garhwal

Pick-up from Dehradun Railway Station as per your flights time or Airport, drive to Srinagar Garhwal. check in at hotel & relax, evening free for individual activities. Overnight stay at hotel.

 

Day 02:  Srinagar Garhwal Local Sightseeing

Have your breakfast at the hotel. Visit to Srinagar Garhwal Local Sightseens, Dhari Devi Temple On the banks of Alaknanda river, the holy temple of Goddess Dhari Devi is located between Srinagar on Rudraprayag Road, Kamleshwar Temple, Keshorai Math, Vishnu Mohini Temple, Kilkileshwar Mahadev etc. Overnight stay at hotel.

 

Day 03:   Srinagar Garhwal - Dehradun

After early breakfast, drive back to Dehradun. On arrive Dehradun, transfer to Railway Station or Airport.

How to reach Srinagar Garhwal

By Train:

Rishikesh / Yog Nagari Rishikesh Railway Station (Station Code: YNRK / RKSH - 105 km southwest): Direct express trains connect to New Delhi, Haridwar, Dehradun, and major Indian cities. Hill cabs and shared jeeps reach Srinagar Garhwal in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours along NH-07. Haridwar Junction (HW - 130 km) provides extensive pan India connections.

By Air:

Jolly Grant Airport (Airport Code: DED - 125 km southwest): Nearest domestic airport operating daily flights from New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. Taxi drive takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.

By Road:

  • From Delhi (~345 km / 6.5 to 7.5 hours):** Via Delhi Meerut Expressway, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Srinagar Garhwal along NH-07 (All Weather Char Dham Highway).
  • From Rishikesh (~105 km / 2.5 to 3 hours):** Smooth double lane mountain highway following the Alaknanda valley.
  • From Dehradun (~145 km / 4 hours):** Via Rishikesh or Chamba route.
  • GMOU, UTC, and private deluxe buses run round the clock from ISBT Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun directly to Srinagar Garhwal.

Local Transport:

Shared jeeps, local auto rickshaws, and private taxis connect Srinagar town, Chauras campus, Kamleshwar temple, and Dhari Devi.

1. Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple & Lord Rama 1000 Lotus Shiva Sanctuary

One of the most ancient and sacred Shiva temples in Garhwal. According to legend, Lord Rama worshipped Shiva here with 1,000 lotuses to atone for slaying Ravana. The temple is famed for the *Baikunth Chaturdashi* festival where couples pray through the night holding oil lamps for blessings of progeny.

2. Maa Dhari Devi Temple & Alaknanda River Rock Guardian Shrine (14 km)

A revered Shakti temple perched on a rocky island in the middle of the sacred Alaknanda River at Kalyasaur (14 km away). Worshipped as the supreme guardian deity of Uttarakhand and protector of Char Dham pilgrims, the idol is said to miraculously transform from a girl to a woman and an elderly lady from dawn to dusk.
