Chorabari Tal, also revered across the country as Gandhi Sarovar, is a glacial lake situated at the snout of the Chorabari Glacier at an elevation of 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) in Uttarakhand. Set right at the foot of the colossal Kedarnath peak, this pristine glacial tarn was renamed after some of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed in its holy crystalline waters in 1948.
A scenic 3.5 km trek uphill from the Kedarnath shrine leads hikers along gravel paths, ice streams, and moraine deposits directly to the lake edge. Floating ice chunks often drift across the surface during early summer. Surrounding cliffs offer dramatic panoramic vistas of the hanging glaciers and sheer mountain faces of the higher Himalayas.
Chorabari Tal is reached on foot starting from the Kedarnath temple complex.
