Uma Devi Temple is an ancient and revered holy shrine consecrated to Goddess Uma (an avatar of Goddess Parvati), perched gracefully near the confluence of the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers in Karnaprayag, within the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Dating back over a thousand years to the 8th century, this historic stone temple is deeply venerated by local mountain communities as the protective presiding deity of the entire Karnaprayag region.
According to regional lore, Adi Guru Shankaracharya restored the temple and consecrated the black stone deity of Goddess Uma here during his spiritual mission across the Himalayas. The temple complex showcases traditional Garhwal hill stone masonry and brass kalash finials. Pilgrims visiting Karnaprayag along the Badrinath route gather here for morning and evening aartis, offering prayers for strength, prosperity, and safe journeys through high mountain roads.
