Nauti

Nauti is a historic spiritual village tucked into the rolling hills of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, resting at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters near Karnaprayag. Globally celebrated as the ancestral home of Goddess Nanda Devi's royal priests (Nautiyal Brahmins), Nauti is the sacred ceremonial starting point for the legendary Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, an epic 280 km barefoot mountain pilgrimage undertaken once every twelve years.

At the core of the village stands the ancient Nanda Devi Temple, where the golden image and royal ring of the goddess are worshipped. During the Raj Jat, a four horned ram (Chausingha Khadu) is ceremonially prepared here to lead thousands of pilgrims across alpine meadows and high passes toward the sacred glacial tarn of Homkund. Travelers visiting Karnaprayag come to Nauti to experience authentic Garhwali stone architecture, centuries old folklore, and serene mountain terrace views.
