Karna Temple (Karan Mandir) is an ancient and holy stone shrine situated at the sacred confluence (Sangam) of the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers in Karnaprayag, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Resting at an altitude of 788 meters along the Badrinath pilgrimage highway, this historic temple is dedicated to Karna, the legendary tragic hero, unparalleled archer, and peerless benefactor (Daanveer) of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
According to epic tradition, Karna performed severe tapasya (penance) at this exact riverbank confluence to please his father, the Sun God Surya, and received the impenetrable armor (Kavacha) and golden earrings (Kundala). The temple complex also features the stone memorial where Lord Krishna is said to have cremated Karna following the Mahabharata war. Travelers stopping in Karnaprayag visit the stone sanctum to offer prayers and admire the roaring turquoise confluence waters below.
Karna Temple is situated within easy walking distance from the main Karnaprayag bus stand on NH 07.
