Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary

Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary is a renowned high altitude wildlife conservation and breeding reserve situated along the scenic Chopta Gopeshwar roadway in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Perched at an elevation of approximately 2,040 meters (6,692 feet) and sprawling over 5 square kilometers of dense oak, conifer, and rhododendron forests, this specialized sanctuary was established in 1982 specifically to breed, protect, and rehabilitate the endangered Himalayan musk deer (Moschus leucogaster).

Tucked within the larger Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, the center features extensive natural enclosures, dense canopy cover, and tranquil forest walking trails. In addition to housing shy musk deer, the sanctuary is an exceptional biodiversity haven home to diverse Himalayan wildlife including the Himalayan monal (state bird of Uttarakhand), koklass pheasant, barking deer, leopards, red foxes, and numerous high altitude migratory birds.
