Chandrashila Trek is one of the popular treks, that can be undertaken round the year, in Garhwal Himalayas except during snowbound months of December & January. Chandrasila summit is a rock face above and beyond the temple of Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in India. It is a short but rigorous hike beyond the temple. The Chandrasila summit affords the most beautiful view of the Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Peak and Chaukhamba peaks, and also a 360 degree view of some of the most astounding views from anywhere in the Garhwal Himalayas. This area is one of the most beautiful and picturesque spots in the whole Garhwal region, and owing to its isolated location- one of the yet unspoiled spots in the region. The breathtaking view of the Himalayas is treat for the eyes as well as soul. This spot is ideal for painters , and artists to draw inspiration from, and a perfect spot for meditation! Chopta is situated on the Gopeshwar - Ukhimath road at a distance of about 40 Kms. from Gopeshwar , located at an altitude of 2900.

A quaint and rustic village in Uttarakhand, Tungnath is better known as the starting point of the much acclaimed Chopta Chandrashila Trek. Reaching a height of 2,680m, this picturesque hamlet is adorned with the enchanting beauty of the evergreen pine, deodar and rhododendron forests. Be it the untouched beauty or the natural marvels around this Chopta, its myriad list of offerings and pictorial appeal has earned it the fame of being called the 'Mini Switzerland of India'. While during the summers or springs, the entire vicinity gets embraced with the charm and appeal of the exotic vegitation, during the winters, Chopta wears a thick blanket of snow that makes it even more appealing.

Day 01: Rishikesh - Ukhimath (184 kms/7-8 hrs)

Morning Drive to Ukhimath via Rishikesh, Devprayag (Confluence of Alaknanda & Bhagirathi, from Devprayag the Holy river Ganges started), Rudraprayag (Confluence of Alaknanda & Mandakini River). Breakfast and lunch enroute. Arrival at Ukhimath by evening. Check into Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 02: Ukhimath - Deoriatal (2438 mts/7998 ft)

In the morning you can see snow clapped Himalayan ranges. After breakfast start your trek to Deoriatal through dense forest of Rhodendron and lots of wild flowers and ferns. The trek will take 3- 4 hrs to reach Deoriatal. Upon arrival at Deoriatal set out the tents for overnight stay.

Day 03: Deoriatal - Sari - Chopta

In the morning trek down to Sari village (3 kms) and from here drive to Chopta through dense forest and meadows. Its 30 kms drive from Sari Village. Upon arrival at Chopta set out your tents for overnight stay. In the evening explore the magnificent view of the Himalayas.

Day 04: Chopta -Tungnath (3680 ft/12070 ft) - Chandrasila (4090 mts/13415 ft)

Chopta After an early breakfast trek to Tungnath with packed lunch. Tungnath is situated at the height of 3680 mts from the sea level the highest in India. The trek is three kms upward. Enroute you will find lush green meadows and you can see the entire range of snow clapped Himalayas. Upon arrival at Tungnath Temple and visit the temple. After relax one further one kms trek to Chandrasila peak. Later trek back to Chopta for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 05: Chopta to Rishikesh

Rishikesh After an early breakfast drive to Rishikesh. Lunch enroute. Upon arrival at Rishikesh, arrive in rishikesh tour end.

By Train:

Rishikesh / Yog Nagari Rishikesh Railway Station (Station Code: YNRK / RKSH - 210 km southwest): Direct express trains connect to New Delhi, Haridwar, Dehradun, and major Indian cities. Hill cabs and shared jeeps reach Chopta in approximately 6.5 to 7.5 hours via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath along NH-07 and NH-107A. Haridwar Junction (HW - 235 km) provides extensive national connectivity.

By Air:

Jolly Grant Airport (Airport Code: DED - 225 km southwest): Nearest domestic airport operating daily flights from New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. Taxi drive takes approximately 7 to 8 hours.

By Road:

• From Delhi (~450 km / 10 to 11 hours): Via Delhi Meerut Expressway, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Kund, Ukhimath, Dugalbitta, and Chopta (NH-07 / NH-107A).
• From Rishikesh (~210 km / 6.5 to 7 hours): Via Rudraprayag and Ukhimath.
• From Joshimath (~63 km / 2.5 hours): Via Chamoli, Gopeshwar, and Mandal road.
• UTC and GMOU buses operate daily from Rishikesh and Haridwar to Ukhimath and Gopeshwar, where local shared taxis connect to Chopta.

Shared jeeps, local mountain taxis, and trekking trails connect Chopta, Tungnath, Dugalbitta, Sari village, and Ukhimath.

1. Tungnath Temple & Highest Shiva Temple in the World (3,680 m / 12,073 ft)

The highest Shiva temple in the world and the third of the sacred Panch Kedar shrines, believed to have been constructed by the Pandavas over 1,000 years ago. Reached via a scenic 3.5 km paved mountain trek from Chopta through rhododendron forests and alpine meadows.

2. Chandrashila Summit Trek & 360-Degree Himalayan Panorama (4,000 m)

The "Moon Rock" summit rising 1.5 km beyond Tungnath Temple at 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). Celebrated as the meditation point of Lord Rama and Lakshmana, it provides an unobstructed 360 degree panoramic view of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, and Thalaysagar.

3. Deoria Tal Alpine Emerald Lake & Mount Chaukhamba Reflection (Sari Village)

A crystal clear high altitude lake situated at 2,438 meters near Sari village (22 km from Chopta). Famous for the mirror reflection of the Chaukhamba peaks on its calm waters, surrounded by oak and rhododendron woods.

A 5 sq km protected reserve established for the breeding and conservation of the endangered Himalayan musk deer and Himalayan monal pheasant.
