Located above Damthang village in South Sikkim, the trailhead sits 13 km north of Namchi town center, 14 km from Temi Tea Garden, 28 km from Ravangla, and 65 km from Gangtok, easily reached by private taxi or shared jeep from Namchi market.

The 6 Km Damthang Forest Trail & Biodiversity

The trek begins at Damthang Bazaar (2,050 m) and climbs 550 vertical meters along a shaded, well trodden earthen and stone trail winding through the Tendong State Biodiversity Park.

Hikers walk beneath towering canopies of flowering rhododendrons, Himalayan birch, and giant bamboo groves, accompanied by the calls of barking deer, flying squirrels, and colorful mountain birds.

Truth is, stepping onto the top deck of the summit watchtower as the morning fog clears to reveal snow clad Kanchenjunga is an impressive reward after your climb.

The Upraised Horn Lore: Lepcha mythology tells of 'Tendong' rising miraculously like a horn during a great cosmic deluge, creating a safe sanctuary on its peak for surviving humanity.

Annual August Festival: On August 8th every year, thousands of Lepcha devotees climb to the summit to perform traditional nature worship rituals, dance, and share traditional millet beer (chhang).
