Mananchira Square

Mananchira Square (celebrated across Malabar as the historic civic heart and royal cultural epicenter of Calicut), gracefully sprawling across several lush acres in the very center of Kozhikode city in Kerala, is one of Kerala's most iconic, architecturally dignified, and beloved urban heritage public parks.

It's the home of the expansive shimmering 14th century royal lake, manicured green lawns lined with royal palms and shaded canopies, an open air amphitheater hosting cultural performances and classical music concerts, musical fountains illuminating the evening water surface, carved stone sculptures and bronze statues of Malayalam literary icons, the adjoining historic Kozhikode Town Hall, the classic colonial Commonwealth Trust building, and the Public Library.

The 14th Century Royal Zamorin Mananchira Tank

Excavated over 600 years ago by King Mana Vikrama, this massive laterite lined pond provided crystal clear drinking water to the royal court and citizens of Calicut.
