Conceived, curated, and passionately built over 25 years by art historian George Thaliath and his wife Annie George, this privately maintained cultural treasure house was constructed using reclaimed timber, stone pillars, and woodcarvings gathered from 62 dismantled heritage houses, ancestral manas, and ruined temples across Kerala, uniting Malabar timber joinery, Cochin colonial woodcraft, and Travancore temple architecture within a single monumental 3 tier structure.

It's the home of an astounding collection of over 4,000 authentic anthropological artifacts, ritual dance headgears, and tribal antiquities, the ground floor Malabar Gallery showcasing massive wooden doors, stone idols, and folk musical instruments, the first floor Cochin Gallery featuring rare woodcarvings, Theyyam masks, and bronze ritual lamps, the grand top floor Travancore Royal Koothambalam theatre crowned by an authentic 17th century wood carved ceiling depicting Shiva Parvati legends, nightly authentic Kathakali, Kalaripayattu, and Mohiniyattam performance recitals, a specialized heritage handicraft store, and an unforgettable sensory atmosphere where the natural scent of polished teak and centuries old cedar fills every gallery chamber.

3 Architectural Styles: Malabar, Cochin & Travancore

The building is constructed in three architectural tiers: the ground floor in Malabar style, the first floor in Cochin style, and the top floor in Travancore royal style.

Over 60 traditional timber structures slated for demolition were carefully dismantled and reassembled by 62 master carpenters over seven years.

Truth is, ascending through these intricately carved timber corridors while admiring 500 year-old Theyyam crowns feels like stepping back into ancient Malabar.
