Khajjiar, globally renowned as the Mini Switzerland of India, is an enchanting saucer shaped alpine meadow situated at 6,500 feet (1,920 metres), located 22 km from Dalhousie. Encircled by thick deodar forests and snowcapped Himalayan ranges in Himachal Pradesh, it is an iconic highland plateau.
In the centre of the emerald green meadow lies the tranquil Khajjiar Lake, featuring a natural floating grass island (vound) drifting across its surface. Travelers relax along the grassy slopes, ride friendly mountain horses, or try thrilling zorbing rolls down gentle grassy inclines.
Truth is, near the meadow edge stands the ancient 12th century Khajji Nag Temple, featuring a gilded spire, wooden mandapa carvings depicting the Pandavas and Kauravas, and five life sized wooden statues of the Pandava brothers brought from Chamba valley history.
