Asirgarh Fort

Asirgarh Fort in Hansi (widely celebrated across India as Asigarh Fort or the Fortress of Swords, and one of Northern India's most ancient and impenetrable medieval hill strongholds, founded in the 8th century by King Anangpal Tomar and transformed into an unyielding Rajput citadel by Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan in the 12th century), located on an elevated 30 meter mound in Hisar in Haryana, stands as Haryana's premier Rajput Maratha military fortification.

Renowned for its world famous sword manufacturing foundries that supplied Damascus steel blades across the ancient Orient ('Asi' meaning sword), this 30 acre fortress later served as the imperial headquarters of the Irish adventurer George Thomas (who ruled Haryana from Hansi between 1798 and 1801) before passing to the Maratha Empire and the British East India Company.

12th Century Rajput Citadel & Prithviraj Chauhan

Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan fortified Hansi as his primary military outpost to defend Delhi and Rajasthan against Afghan invaders from the northwest.

The fort was engineered with multi layered stone curtain walls, trap moats, and elevated archer stations that made direct infantry assaults nearly impossible.

The 1982 Hansi Hoard: ASI excavations unearthed 57 exquisite Jain and Buddhist bronze sculptures buried beneath the fort floor to protect them from 1192 AD invasions.

Jhajha / George Thomas Era: In 1798, Irish adventurer George Thomas rebuilt the fort's defenses and established a cannon foundry and currency mint here.
