Also known as the Elephant Mansion, the hotel has its origin rooted in the royal heritage of Sikkim which was then an independent country. The Royal Heritage Hotel was constructed in 1963 for royal guests during the coronation of Sikkim's last King Palden Thondup Namgyal.
