Seven Lakes

Tucked inside a dense valley of ancient oak and pine forests at an elevation of 1,370 meters (4,495 feet) in Nainital district roughly 22 kilometers from Nainital and 10 kilometers from Bhimtal, Seven Lakes (Sattal) is a striking interconnected freshwater ecosystem in Uttarakhand. Regarded as one of the most biodiverse freshwater wetland clusters in the western Himalayas, the valley comprises seven natural interconnected lakes in Sattal.

The interconnected water bodies include Panna Tal (Garud Tal), Nal Damyanti Tal, Ram Tal, Sita Tal, Lakshman Tal, Bharat Tal, and Sukha Tal. Shaded by towering trees with zero commercial motorboats permitted, the pristine emerald waters provide the perfect setting for silent kayaking, rowing, and shoreline angling.

Sattal is globally celebrated as a premier birding hotspot, sheltering over 500 species of resident and migratory birds alongside 525 species of Himalayan butterflies and 11,000 moth species. Forest nature camps on the lakeside meadows offer eco friendly tented accommodations, nature walks, and stargazing under unpolluted mountain skies.
