Chandrabadni Devi Temple

Chandrabadni Devi Temple is a sacred Shaktipeeth shrine perched at an elevation of 2,277 meters (7,470 feet) atop Chandrabadani mountain near Jamnikhal, roughly 33 kilometers from New Tehri in Uttarakhand. According to Puranic mythology, this mountain peak is where the torso (body trunk) of Goddess Sati fell while Lord Shiva carried her across the heavens, establishing it as one of the three revered Goddess triangle temples of Garhwal (alongside Surkanda Devi and Kunjapuri).

The temple sanctum does not house a traditional idol; instead, a sacred natural Shri Yantra carved into stone is worshipped beneath a canopy of colorful silken clothes (Chhatra). Outside the shrine, visitors are rewarded with striking panoramic vistas of the snow blanketed Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Trishul Himalayan ranges, alongside the deep valleys of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers. A well laid 1.5 kilometer paved stepped path ascends to the temple from the roadhead parking area at Jamnikhal.

Truth is, feeling the mountain breeze carry soft temple chants while gazing at endless Himalayan snow peaks from the summit terrace is deeply uplifting. It stands as a profound center of spiritual faith in Uttarakhand.
