Indian Veterinary Research Institute

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Mukteshwar campus stands as a pioneering institution of animal science and veterinary biology in India. Established in 1893 during the British colonial era, this hilltop campus played an instrumental role in eradicating rinderpest and developing livestock vaccines.

The campus spreads across hundreds of acres of pine and deodar forests. It features grand colonial stone edifices, manicured lawns, and specialized research laboratories that reflect over a century of scientific heritage.

Heritage Museum, Library, and Historic Legacy

Within the institute premises sits a well preserved veterinary museum showcasing antique laboratory equipment, microscopes, historical photographs, and research documents dating back to the late nineteenth century.

The institute also houses an extensive scientific library with rare journals and books on bacteriology and veterinary medicine. Renowned scientists including Nobel laureate Robert Koch visited and advised the institute during its formative years.
