Located in a broad agricultural river valley along the banks of the Kosi and Sai streams in Almora district, Someshwar is a renowned spiritual pilgrimage town in Uttarakhand. Situated roughly 35 kilometers north of Almora and 32 kilometers from the temple hub of Dwarahat, the town is celebrated for the ancient Someshwar Mahadev Temple, founded in the sixteenth century by King Som Chand, the founder of the Chand dynasty of Kumaon.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the stone shikhara shrine draws direct cultural and architectural inspiration from the famous Somnath Jyotirlinga temple of Gujarat. The sanctum sanctorum encloses an ancient stone Shiva Lingam where sacred spring water drips continually over the linga surface.
The fertile valley floor around Someshwar is bordered by golden wheat and emerald paddy terraces backed by pine clad hillocks. The town is an important cultural crossroad connecting Almora, Kausani, and Dwarahat, famous for its lively local bell ringing rituals and annual Shivratri melas.

Someshwar is located in a scenic valley along the Kosi River in Almora district, roughly 35 kilometers north of Almora and 12 kilometers south of Kausani.
The temple was founded in the 16th century by King Som Chand, the historic founder of the Chand dynasty rule in Kumaon.
It combines the name of King Som Chand and Ishwar (Lord Shiva), inspired by the ancient Somnath temple tradition of western India.
The temple remains open daily from 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM throughout the year. Entry is free for all visitors.
