About Bineshwar Mahadev Temple

Tucked away within dense centuries old deodar, oak, and pine woodlands inside the Binsar sanctuary at an elevation of 2,150 meters in Almora district, Bineshwar Mahadev Temple is an ancient tenth century Shiva shrine in Uttarakhand. Situated roughly 6 kilometers before the main entry gate of Binsar on the road ascending from Almora, the temple gives the entire Binsar wildlife ridge its historical name.

Bineshwar Mahadev Temple Binsar Almora

Originally consecrated in the tenth century by the Katyuri dynasty and later extensively renovated in the sixteenth century by King Kalyan Chand of Kumaon, the temple displays classical North Indian stone shikhara architecture. The inner sanctum houses a natural rock Shiva Lingam, alongside intricately carved stone idols of Ganesha, Durga, and Nandi Bull.

A natural fresh mountain spring flows through carved stone water spouts (Dharas) into the temple courtyard, where pilgrims wash their hands and feet before darshan. The profound silence of the surrounding deodar woods and fresh mountain air make Bineshwar a deeply meditative sanctuary for spiritual travelers.
