Almora has been alluring with its culture and its picturesque panorama since ever. Almora is situated in a horse-shoe shaped ridge, and has become a commercial and tourist hub. It served as a meditation spot for Swami Vivekananda; he always praised Almora’s pristine surrounding. Almora’s holy temples attract myriad of pilgrim as well. Nanda Devi and Chetai Temple are the most significant temples of all. There are different points that offer the best view of the vicinity, like Bright End Corner. Then there is a 200-year old market, Lala Bazaar, to satisfy the shopaholics.

Package Itinerary

Day 1:   Delhi - Almora

Pick-up from Delhi Railway Station as per your flights time or Airport, drive to Almora. check in at hotel & relax, evening free for individual activities. Overnight stay at hotel.

 

Day 02:  Almora Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, Later visit local sightseeing. Deer Park ( 3kms.), Kasar Devi ( 6kms.), Mohan Joshi Park (2.5kms.), Chitai Temple (8kms.), Simtola ( 4kms.), Brightend Corner (2kms.), Kamlimath Museum at Bus Stand ( 5kms.) etc. Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 03:   Almora - Delhi

After early breakfast, drive back to Delhi. On arrive Delhi, transfer to Railway Station or Airport.

How to reach Almora

By Air:

The nearest domestic airport is Pantnagar Airport (Airport Code: PGH), located 115 km south of Almora (approximately 3.5 hours drive via Kathgodam, Bhowali, and Khairna on the well-maintained NH-109 highway). Regular flights operate from New Delhi (IGI) and Dehradun. The alternative major international gateway is New Delhi (DEL), 355 km away.

By Train:

Kathgodam Railway Station (Station Code: KGM) is the nearest railhead, situated 82 km from Almora (about 2.5 hours scenic drive through the mountains). Prominent trains connecting Kathgodam include:

  • New Delhi – Kathgodam Shatabdi Express (Train 12040/12039): Premium daytime express reaching Kathgodam in 5 hours 30 minutes.
  • Ranikhet Express (Train 15014/15013): Overnight express from Jaisalmer, Jaipur, and Old Delhi Junction (DLI).
  • Kathgodam Express / Uttar Sampark Kranti (Train 15035/15036): Daily direct service from New Delhi.
  • Shared and private taxis operate round-the-clock from Kathgodam Station to Almora.

By Road:

Almora features smooth, all-weather road connectivity with Delhi NCR and northern cities:

  • From Delhi NCR (~355 km / 7.5 to 8 hours): Drive via Delhi-Meerut Expressway (NE-3), NH-9 through Hapur, Moradabad bypass, Rampur, Rudrapur, Haldwani, Kathgodam, Bhowali, and Almora.
  • State & Private Buses: Direct regular and Volvo AC buses operate daily from ISBT Anand Vihar, New Delhi, to Almora Bus Stand.

1. Kasar Devi Temple & Crank's Ridge (Van Allen Geomagnetic Wonder)

Located 8 km from Almora at an altitude of 2,116 meters, Kasar Devi Temple is a 2nd-century CE rock-cut shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga. Positioned on the Earth's geomagnetic Van Allen radiation belt, the atmosphere possesses a scientifically documented high vibrational frequency ideal for deep meditation. Swami Vivekananda meditated in the caves here in 1890, and the nearby Crank's Ridge became a haven for writers, philosophers, and spiritual seekers.

2. Chitai Golu Devta Temple (Temple of 100,000 Brass Bells & God of Justice)

Situated 9 km from Almora, the Chitai Golu Devta Temple is dedicated to Golu Devta (an incarnation of Lord Shiva), revered across Kumaon as the supreme dispenser of justice. Devotees from all over India write their grievances and legal prayers on stamp papers and judicial petitions, tying them to temple railings. Once their wishes are fulfilled, devotees return to hang solid brass bells, creating a mesmerizing canopy of over one hundred thousand chiming bells.

3. Katarmal Sun Temple (9th-Century Bara Aditya Stone Marvel - 17 km)

Perched on a mountain ridge 17 km from Almora, the Katarmal Sun Temple (built in the 9th century by Katyuri King Katarmalla) is India's second most significant Sun temple complex after Konark. Surrounded by 44 miniature stone shrines, the main temple is engineered so that the first rays of the morning sun illuminate the sanctum sanctorum's Surya idol during both equinoxes.

4. Jageshwar Dham (Ancient 124 Jyotirlinga Stone Temple Cluster - 36 km)

Nestled in a tranquil valley sheltered by towering deodar cedar trees, Jageshwar Dham is a sacred pilgrimage site comprising 124 stone temples dating from the 7th to the 12th century CE. Revered as one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas (Nagesh Jyotirlinga) and consecrated by Adi Shankaracharya, Jageshwar features the Maha Mrityunjaya Temple, Dandeshwar Temple, and the historic Jageshwar Archaeological Museum.

5. Bright End Corner & Swami Vivekananda Memorial

Located at the tip of the Almora ridge (2 km from town center), Bright End Corner is renowned for offering breath-taking sunrise and sunset views over the glowing snow peaks of Nanda Devi and Trishul. It marks the spot where Swami Vivekananda stayed and meditated during his sojourn in Almora, and features the serene Vivekananda Memorial Library and meditation garden.

6. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary & Zero Point (30 km)

Sprawling across 47 sq km atop Jhandi Dhar hill, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary was the summer capital of the Chand kings. 8. Govind Ballabh Pant Museum & Kumaon Heritage Art

Located near the Mall Road, the Govind Ballabh Pant Museum houses an invaluable collection of ancient Katyuri and Chand dynasty stone sculptures, miniature paintings, folk manuscripts, and traditional Aipan folk art native to Kumaon.
