Periyar National Park

Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a renowned tiger and elephant reserve, located in the districts of Pathanamthitta and Idukki in Kerala. This protected place is spread over an area of 357 square miles. The core zone, spread over 140 square miles, is known as the Periyar National Park. It is also called Thekkady, an important tourist location of Kerala. This park and sanctuary is surrounded by the Cardamom Hills, enhancing beauty of the place



Periyar Lake

Periyar Lake, spread across contour of the hills, was formed when Mullaperiyar Dam was built in the year 1895. This has become the permanent water source for wildlife here. While visiting this place, you would surely spot herds of elephants playing in this picturesque lake.



Periyar Tiger Trail

Periyar Tiger Trail Program is meant for you. Every tiger trail consists of five guides along with one armed forest guard. Maximum six tourists are allowed in every trail. The total trekking distance is anything from 20 km to 35 km. You can have the adventure of encountering various indigenous wild animals



Vandanmedu

Located around 20 km from Thekkady, Vandanmedu is small village and a perfect weekend gateway. It is also the largest auction centers of cardamom in the world and these cardamom plantations are worth exploring. Its relaxing rural environment, pleasant weather, and few old buildings are the key highlights of the place.



Vandiperiyar

Vandiperiyar is situated at a distance of about 14.7 km from Thekkady and can be reached by the National Highway 220. This is one of those places that are popular for plantations of coffee, black pepper, tea, and other spices. Located in the Idukki district of Kerala, it is one of those destinations that you should include in your itinerary.



Kumily

The quaint town of Kumily lies at a distance of about 4 km from Thekkady nestled in the realms of the majestic Cardamom Hills. A very pleasant and warm town, nestled between cardamom hills, Kumily is an interesting tourist destination in Idukki district. Enveloped by tea and spice plantations, this town is a must-visit to understand the rural lifestyle of the region. Tourists can enjoy typical Kerala cuisine also in this town.



Mangala Devi Temple

An ancient temple (almost 2000 years old) designed in Pandian style of architecture, this temple is dedicated to Devi Kannagi or Mangala and is at a distance of about 15 km from Thekkady. Situated on the top of a cliff and surrounded by trees, this temple is visited by many pilgrims. Please note that it is necessary to get permission from the wildlife authorities in Thekkady to visit the area.



Parunthumpara

Parunthumpara is a village between Thekkady and peerumedu. It attracts tourists because of the large area of eagle shaped rocks. There are plans to develop it as a hill station by the tourism council. Once you are in the peak of the rack you can experience the entire beauty of Thekkady.



Chellarkovil

Famous for gushing waterfalls and panoramic valleys, this is a must-visit place for every nature lover. There are several small mountain brooks in this place and the overall natural beauty is enticing. It is very near to Cumbum, which is famous for lush coconut groves. Tourists can enjoy the view of those beautiful imposing coconut groves from here.



Anakkara

Anakarra is just about 50 sq. km in area. Situated approximately 18 km from Idduki wildlife sanctuary on the Kumily-Munnar state highway, this place is famous for its spice plantations and picturesque waterfalls. It also offers trekking opportunities and paragliding options depending on weather for adventure enthusiasts. Aruvikuzhi Falls, also known as Chellarcovil falls is a very famous spot which also houses an Ayurvedic destination resorts apart from spice plantations. Ottakathalemedu is another nearby place which offers a panoramic view of Anakkara and surrounding area and a beautiful sunset view.

Being popular amongst the pilgrims, the hilltop has a Church where people often come to hail their offerings. Located 3 kilometres from Vazhikkadavu the mountain is a popular Christain pilgrimage centre , Every year during the Holy Week, thousands of Christian devotees flock this mountain top to pay homage by carrying small wooden crosses.



Murikkady

Murikkady, about 5 km from Thekkady is a ideal place for visitor to see plantations of various spices. Washed in fresh, spice-scented air, Murikkady is a panorama of cardamom, coffee and pepper plantations. Covered in the haze and splendid valleys of the Western Ghats is what makes Murrikaddy an experience to cherish. The slopes are covered with the plantations and being a prominent picnic spot of the region the place soaks you up in the peace and the greens of the nature.
