Popular for its green slopes of tea plantations, leaves laden with morning dew ready to be taken away to the tea packaging units, Coonoor hill station works its way with tourists like magic. Coonoor is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris, surrounded by tea plantations. It stands at an altitude of 1839 metres. It is essentially a small tea garden town where the weather is pleasantly cool through the year. It falls on the toy-train line between Mettupalayam (28 km) and Ooty. A popular pastime here is birdwatching as it is home to an extensive array of birds. The main attraction of course is Sim's Park, a small botanical garden that boasts of a wide variety of plants.

Coonoor is the second largest hill station in the region. The place is covered in the lusciously green velvets of the tea plantations making it show-off rich shades of emerald green. A kilometre or two above the main city, one can soak in the peace offered by the nature. One can see a clear view of the sea and stretching the eyes beyond the sea are lush-green mountains of the region. The place has a serenity to offer that beholds only to Coonoor. The major attraction of Coonoor is Sim's Park, a well-maintained Botanical Garden that houses several varieties of plants found missing in the other Hill Stations. It is spread over 12 hectares. Viewpoints and picnic spots around Coonoor include Lambs Rock, Dolphins Nose, St. Catherine Falls, Law's fall, etc.

Coimbatore Airport is the nearest airport from Coonoor which is located approx a distance of 79 km.

By Train

Coonoor is the only available rail stop for the Nilgiri Mountain Railway service between Ooty and Mettupalayam.
