About Gurdwara Garna Sahib

Gurdwara Garna Sahib in Hoshiarpur (celebrated across the global Sikh community as one of Punjab's most sacred, historically revered, and spiritually uplifting Gurdwaras, consecrated by the holy visit of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the Sixth Sikh Guru and master of Miri Piri, who rested here while traveling through the Doaba region in the early 17th century), situated in village Bodal near Dasuya just 45 km northwest of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, is one of Doaba's supreme pilgrimage centers.

Established around the sacred Garna tree (Capparis decidua / Karir bush) where Guru Hargobind Ji tied his royal horse and played divine melodies on his musical instrument (Taus) while meditating in the tranquil forest, this monumental marble Gurdwara complex features an octagonal domed sanctum, a soaring gold plated central pinnacle, and a sacred holy water tank (Sarovar).

It's the home of the sacred Darbar Sahib hall where the continuous recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji resounds throughout the day and night, the ancient living Garna tree carefully preserved inside the inner courtyard under a protective glass enclosure, the holy Amrit Sarovar where thousands of devotees take cleansing dips for spiritual and physical rejuvenation, the vast Guru Ka Langar dining hall serving free sanctified vegetarian meals to all visitors regardless of caste or creed, the historic memorial well (Khuh) dug during the Guru's stay, and an intensely uplifting devotional atmosphere where the soulful vibrations of classical Gurbani Kirtan and selfless Seva fill every corner of the shrine.

It represents a rich 17th century Sikh heritage, Guru Hargobind Ji's travels, and sacred Gurbani traditions where the historic Garna tree, Darbar Sahib marble halls, holy Sarovars, and community langars unite in Gurdwara Garna Sahib Hoshiarpur.

Located in village Bodal just 5 km from Dasuya, it sits 45 km from Hoshiarpur city, 55 km from Jalandhar, 90 km from Pathankot, and 100 km from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar (ATQ), easily accessible by private cabs, local buses, and pilgrimage taxis along NH 44.

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji & The Legend of the Garna Tree

During his journey through the Doaba and Shivalik regions in 1630 AD, Guru Hargobind Ji stopped at this secluded woodland spot to meditate and preach the divine message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

The dry Garna branch used by the Guru as a horse peg miraculously sprouted into a flourishing, evergreen tree, which continues to bear fruit to this day and gives the Gurdwara its sacred name.

Truth is, listening to live classical raag Kirtan while sitting on the cool marble parikrama beside the Sarovar brings deep mental peace.
