The 9 Day Rath Yatra Sojourn & Ratnavedi Origin

During the annual Rath Yatra in Ashadha (June/July), the three colossal wooden chariots are pulled by millions of devotees from the Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple, marking the deities' annual journey to their aunt's garden residence.

For seven days, the deities grant 'Sandhya Darshan' / 'Aadap Mandapa Darshan' to pilgrims on the sacred Ratnavedi, a darshan believed to bestow the spiritual merit of a thousand visits to the main temple.

Gundicha Marjana & Sacred Indradyumna Sarovar

Gundicha Marjana Ritual: One day before Rath Yatra, the entire temple is washed and scrubbed with hundreds of pots of sacred water by thousands of devotees and priests, continuing the ancient tradition performed by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Indradyumna Sarovar: Located just behind the temple, this ancient sacred water tank is home to hundreds of century old sacred freshwater turtles that swim up to the stone steps when fed by pilgrims.
