Malkapur is a city and a municipal council in Buldhana district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Malkapur is also known as the Entrance of Vidarbha. It is a major industrial and educational center in Buldhana district. The town,(Malkapur),is said to have been founded about Six Centuries back by a Prince of the Chordiya dynasty of Khandesh "Mohammad Malik Khan", which got independence from Bahamani Sultanate in 1399 and is said to have been named by him after the princess, Malika, his daughter. One of the old gates of the rampart of dressed stones had an inscription to the effect that it was erected in 1729. Malkapur is one of the biggest producer of cotton. Cotton is called " Pandhare Sone" which means White Gold. It is the most important crop in this region.



Malkapur is also known as the entrance of Vidarbha. It is a major industrial and educational center in Buldhana district. Malkapur is known for producing cotton. In the British era it was known as the "white gold of Vidarbha." Malkapur has a vast paper industry and the primary paper suppliers to Mumbai are in Malkapur. Malkapur also has many dal mills, and a major agricultural industry specializing in mahyco and ankur seeds.
