Chalakudy is a municipal town located in Thrissur district in the state of Kerala in South India. It is rightly situated on the banks of the river named Chalakudy.This town serves as a base camp for all those native and foreign tourists who are bound for Vazhachal and Athirappilly waterfalls. It is located 36 km from Kochi if traveled by National highway no-47 and this spot is just 30 km from the district headquarter Thrissur.The river Chalakuddy flows across this town and it is regarded as one of the highest fish diversities of the state. According to the historians, this place had historical importance as it served the Mysore ruler, Tipu Sultan as the base of operations camp during his warriors attack on the Travancore lines. Later this place was under the Kingdom of Kochi and then occupied by the British.
