Manki Point, popularly known as Monkey Point, is the highest elevated geographic peak in Kasauli. Perched at 6,200 feet atop a hill shaped like a giant foot, this panoramic summit is one of the most famous vantage viewpoints in Himachal Pradesh.
According to the Ramayana epic, Lord Hanuman set his foot on this mountain peak while returning from the Himalayas carrying the life saving Sanjeevani herb for injured Lakshmana. Today, a sacred Hanuman Mandir stands on the highest ridge where devotees climb 300 paved steps to pay homage.
Truth is, because the peak is located inside an active Indian Air Force station, security is tight. Visitors must carry valid government photo IDs, and mobile phones or cameras are deposited at the security gate. From the top, you can see the gleaming Sutlej River and the twinkling night lights of Chandigarh.
