Kasauli Brewery

Kasauli Brewery, officially part of Mohan Meakin Ltd, is the oldest operating brewery and distillery in Asia, established in the late 1820s and incorporated in 1855 by Edward Dyer in Kasauli. Set along the tranquil pine slopes of Himachal Pradesh, it is a fascinating milestone in industrial heritage.

Colonial Copper Stills and Pure Spring Water

Dyer selected Kasauli because its cool mountain climate resembled Scotland and provided pure natural freshwater mountain springs. He imported copper pot stills directly from England to brew Asia's first beer, Lion Beer, and distilled classic single malt whiskies that became staples across British India.

Historic Heritage and Modern Operations

Truth is, while the primary brewing operations shifted to Solan due to water scarcity in the hills, the Kasauli facility remains an active distilling unit using original 19th century copper equipment. Curious travelers admire the stone masonry architecture and old barrel rooms tucked among tall pines.
