It is believed that the area where the British official Mr. Forbe's bungalow was located was known to be “Residential Area”, and one of the sub - divisions in the area came to be known as “Forbesganj”. Forbesganj is a small but prominent city long known for its jute production. Off late the closure of these fiber mills have resulted in the slow death of the jute industry here.
