Whether the tourists visiting is a first timer or the frequent visitor, Kaziranga can never fail to get under their skin. The presence of the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, upon which this sanctuary is formed is one good and the main reason to visit the park. With its elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests sprinkled in the park, Kaziranga has no rivals when it comes to the wildlife vacation. Kaziranga is a biological hotspot occupying the Golaghat and Nagaon districts in the heart of Assam. This protected area was discovered in 1904 by the wife of Lord Curzon, who then developed it into a Reserve Forest within the next four years.
Kaziranga as a World Heritage Site for wildlife in 1985. Moreover, in 2006, it was designated as a Tiger Reserve as it is inhabited by the highest number of tigers in terms of density, in a protected area worldwide. Kaziranga is famed to host the largest population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceroses worldwide. For protection of more than 491 avifaunal species, Birdlife International has designated Kaziranga as an Important Bird Area. It is also home to diverse species of mammals, including elephants. The dense vegetation combined with species diversity makes Kaziranga a must-visit park for wildlife and nature lovers. Marvel the exotic wildlife like the one-horned rhinoceros, tigers, elephants and delightful birdlife. It is certainly going to be a 'never-before' kind of an experience not to be missed.
