Vishwanath Temple is an ancient spiritual landmark situated in the heart of Uttarkashi on the banks of the Bhagirathi River in Uttarakhand. Regarded as northern India's counterpart to Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, this revered stone temple was originally established by sage Parashurama and later restored in 1857 by Maharani Khaneti of Tehri Garhwal.

Inside the sanctum sanctorum sits a sacred Shivling measuring 90 centimeters high and 60 centimeters in circumference, continuously bathed in holy Gangajal. Directly opposite the main shrine stands the Shakti Temple, housing a colossal 6 meter (19 foot) tall Ashtadhatu trident (Trishul) bearing ancient Brahmi and Sanskrit inscriptions. Devotees and Chardham yatra pilgrims gather daily to participate in rhythmic morning and evening aartis.
Truth is, gently placing your palm against the massive Ashtadhatu trident and feeling the vibrating temple gong echoes is deeply calming. It is the primary spiritual sanctuary in Uttarakhand's Garhwal hills.
Vishwanath Temple is open year round, with the best visiting months spanning March to June and September to November.
