Dhwaj Temple is a prominent high altitude dual shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Jayanti (Maa Durga), sitting high on a dramatic mountain pinnacle at an elevation of roughly 2,100 meters (6,900 feet), about 18 km north of Pithoragarh. Commanding one of the highest vantage points in the region, the temple offers striking 360 degree panoramic vistas of the snow capped peaks of the Central Himalayas including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Panchachuli.
Surrounded by dense untouched forests of deodar, oak, and blooming rhododendron trees, the temple is reached via an exhilarating 3 km uphill nature trek starting from Totanaula or Majkhali base.
