Janki Chatti

Janki Chatti is the bustling terminal motorable roadhead, pilgrim base town, and sacred hot water spring haven situated at an altitude of roughly 2,650 meters (8,694 feet) in Janki Chatti, serving as the official base camp for the 6 km pilgrimage trek to Yamunotri Dham. Surrounded by towering snow dusted peaks of the Bandarpoonch massif and steep deodar covered mountain slopes, this mountain settlement is alive with pilgrims throughout the Char Dham season.

Famous for its natural geothermal sulphur water pools (Kunds) where devotees take revitalizing holy baths to soothe weary muscles before commencing their uphill climb, the town provides abundant GMVN guest houses, private hotels, registration counters, and mule/palanquin (palki/kandi) stands. Pilgrims touring western Uttarakhand begin their early morning ascent from here along the paved mountain path toward the holy Yamunotri Temple.

Truth is, soaking in the naturally warm hot springs amidst brisk mountain air is an invigorating experience. The town and hot springs remain accessible 24 hours a day with free public access.
