Chamola Nath Temple

Chamolanath Temple (Chamola Nath Mandir) is a prominent and historic spiritual shrine located in the district headquarters town of Chamoli in Uttarakhand. Resting at an elevation of 960 meters along the banks of the roaring Alaknanda River, this ancient temple is dedicated to Chamola Nath, the revered local folk deity (Kuldevta) who according to local oral traditions gave the entire Chamoli district its name.

Built in classic Garhwali hill temple style with sturdy dressed stone walls and wooden tier roofs, the temple is regarded as the divine patron protector of the surrounding valley hamlets. Local residents worship Chamola Nath for bountiful agricultural harvests, protection from natural mountain hazards, and family well being. Travelers heading toward Chamoli and Badrinath stop at the sanctum to experience traditional Garhwali rituals, rhythmic dhol damau drumming, and peaceful views across the Alaknanda riverbed.
