Located in a peaceful river valley along the Almora highway roughly 9 kilometers north of Bhowali and 17 kilometers from Nainital in Uttarakhand, Kainchi Dham is a world renowned spiritual sanctuary and Hanuman temple founded in 1964 by the saint Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj (Maharaj ji). The ashram takes its name from 'Kainchi', referring to the scissor like intersection of two sharp mountain curves.
Over the decades, this serene Himalayan ashram on the banks of the Kshipra river stream has served as a global symbol of meditation and selfless service, attracting prominent international seekers including Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Julia Roberts, and western spiritual teachers like Ram Dass and Krishna Das.
The temple complex houses beautifully maintained shrines dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Goddess Vaishnavi, Lord Shiva, and Baba's personal cave and Mahasamadhi shrine. Every year on June 15, the annual Kainchi Dham Pratishtha Divas fair draws over one lakh devotees from across the world for collective prayers and sacred Malpua prasad distribution.
