The 64 Black Chlorite Yoginis & Tantric Vahanas

Each of the 64 Yogini idols measures approximately 2 feet in height, sculpted from lustrous black chlorite stone with expressive faces, elaborate hairstyles (chignon, crown, coiffure), and ornate tribal ornaments.

The Yoginis stand upon extraordinary animal mounts (vahanas) including owls, crabs, roosters, frogs, scorpions, severed heads, and corpses, reflecting their mastery over supernatural elemental forces.

Roofless Circular Design: Unlike conventional towering Kalinga temples, the hypaethral design has no roof, allowing natural starlight and moonlight to bathe the deities during secret nocturnal Tantric rituals.

Annual Hirapur Festival: Celebrated annually from December 23 to 25, the open air festival brings leading classical Odissi and folk dancers who perform directly in front of the illuminated ancient monument.
